Music

What kind of music would you like to listen to?

As I listen to the strains of "mirchi song.." from the neighbourhood.. I wonder about this phenomenon of extremely irritating music by some composer / singer being played all over the place, from music channels to discos to the paan shops... I first heard it in Surat in a Friend's car.. Why did it ever have to start from there.... LOL!

Why is it that only the horrible songs catch on like this? I mean think about Altaaf Raaja.. there was a time where you could not get onto a bus or an auto-rickshaw without hearing "tum toh thehre Pardeseeeeeee..." Aaaaaarrrr gggghhhhh!!! Some more I can think of "Acha sila diya"......

So why do you think these songs catch on all of a sudden and disappear even more suddenly? Is their popularity due to the fact that they appeal to the great masses or is it the other way around?

  1. I heard that most of the music you hear on Indian radio is from movie soundtracks. Movie production companies release the soundtrack first to help promote the movie and the radio station's DJs end up playing the heck out of the songs on their daily rotation.

The Slumdog Millionaire Movie Soundtrack is a pretty good listen.

  2. Hi, actually you are right, these kind of songs that u mentioned, the one from Altaf Raaja and the other one too are meant for the masses rather than the classes :), they will always be a big hit for our good ol rickshaw, taxi, bus walas.....and they disappear also from the peoples mind pretty soon..........by the way, anyone heard of Altaf Rajaa lately, wonder where he is lolzzzzz.....

Actually am not much into music n songs...just developed this taste recently :) and am enjoying it well....... My most recent happening track is "jai Ho" from SDM, really a peppy one......
